Stephanie Lancaster,  Senior Sales Specialist, Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals

Thank you for your excellent presentation at our National POA.  It was quite impactful with a number of take-a-ways! Today, I have spoken with a number of our managers – two of them informed me that  representatives reviewed action plans and goals and that many individuals referred to your presentation.  Specifically saying that they will no longer be “victims”.  I have been in pharmaceuticals for over 20 years and have heard a number of speakers, your presentation stands apart.  It applies real life experiences with examples of natural reactions for many.  These natural reactions either help us achieve more or cause some to stand by and be idle.  My sense from the team is that some may have been standing idle – this was a call to action and it is evident that many are ready to respond.
-Scott Burandt, Executive Director, National Sales, Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals

“The most FUN and memorable speaker. Audience members shared he was the best speaker they have ever heard. We laughed and cried in the same evening”
-Sharon Swierpel, Eli Lilly & Co.

“Dan is an effective and passionate speaker. His ability to “paint the picture” for the audience and deliver the key message with impact is exceptional.”
-Paul Peixoto, The Serra Group

“I have worked closely under Dan during the Katrina disaster and every year in training with the Medical Response Team. He is an inspiring leader. He motivates me more than anyone else can and I would follow him anywhere in the world! Dan thinks differently than most poeple which makes him uniquely able to problem solve and be creative.”

-Ross Bethel, Owner, Selah Family Medicine

Dan Diamond, MD, international disaster relief doctor arrived on September 18th. His mission: to bring hope and healing to the citizens and volunteers of Joplin. Dr. Diamond brought two critical things to Joplin….empathy and humor. Participants in the “Building Personal Resilience and Coping Skills” presentation for medical workers and first responders reported the message was tough but delivered with a complete understanding delivered only by someone who’s been there. Participants of “How to Stay in the Game When Your Stuff is all Gone” said “it was nice to laugh again”. I personally found Dr. Dan Diamond to be warm and personable, experienced and knowledgeable, and passionate about helping others. His experience in assisting in disaster zones was evident. The practical skills he offered were peppered with personal experience and delivered in a way that reminded us all what our mission is…to not only survive but thrive! Dr. Dan Diamond succeeded in his mission: he brought hope and healing to the citizens of Joplin and made a lasting impact on those fortunate to have met him!

Sue Ershler, Project • Prepare • Persevere®http://inthewingsspeakermgnt.com/susan-ershler/ http://inthewingsspeakermgnt.com/susan-ershler/#comments Fri, 07 Jan 2011 02:09:52 +0000 InTheWings http://inthewingsspeakermgnt.com/?p=2960 Reach New Heights: Be Your Personal and Professional Best

Corporate clients, Sales  and Marketing Teams, Executives, Leaders and Conference Planners turn to Sue Ershler to inspire and motivate their teams and audiences to achieve seemingly impossible goals through focus, discipline, teamwork and solid determination. Her leadership message begins with visualizing a goal, no matter how difficult or out of reach.  She concludes with a passionate affirmation of the value of life and thrill of celebrating your success from the top of the world.

Sue Ershler is the “real deal”…she capped a 23 year corporate career as a successful sales executive winning presidential awards and top sales honors while exceeding up to $600 million in sales goals. Sue and her husband Phil made history by being first couple in the world to conquer the Seven Summits together, the highest mountain on each of the world’s seven continents, which they concluded by standing on top of the world on Mount Everest!  Sue’s optimistic outlook coupled with her natural ability to engage and entertain audiences with clarity and passion cultivates a desire  in audiences to not only reach for but to actually achieve their very best in life and on the job.

Audiences are riveted to their seats when she shares her electrifying life-risking, eye-opening mountain climbing stories and eloquently ties them back to her life and success in the corporate world.  Her captivating life experiences and sales successes completely solidify her credibility in both the business world and in mountain climbing circles.  Sue will brilliantly enthuse and guide your team towards excellence!

“Together on Top of the World” is the Remarkable Story of the First Couple to Climb the Fabled Seven Summits. A Saga of Love and Courage by Phil and Susan Ershler with Robin Simons

Sample Keynote Speeches or Workshops: (customized upon request)

Fit for BusinessTM: How do you achieve your dreams in both your personal and business life – especially the ones that seem impossible? In my presentations, I share my road-tested methods for combining a demanding job with a fulfilling life, while still achieving all that you desire.

Reaching New Heights: Everest & BeyondTM: When Phil and I stood on the top of Mount Everest in 2002, it was the realization of a dream that had begun more than a decade before. Illustrating my presentation with slides and stories from our climbs of the highest  mountains on each of the seven continents, I help audiences discover how to set impossible goals and reach them despite the odds.

Personal Best, Professional BestTM: I learned an important, simple truth from our quest to reach the top of Everest: to achieve something that seems impossible, you’ve got to first set the goal, then prepare, then keep going until you get there.  My husband Phil and I were the first couple to climb the Seven Summits not because we were superhuman, but because we were humans who kept going.  I believe that’s what achievement is made of.  Personal and professional successes go to those who show up and do the work – until they reach their goals.

Seven Summits of SalesTM: “We don’t climb alone, and we don’t sell alone.”  Before I started climbing mountains I climbed sales ‘summits’ for over 20 years, culminating in $600 Million sales goals as a Vice President in Sales. My mission is to help others avoid the crevasses and achieve their professional and personal dreams. This presentation focuses on the particular challenges of sales teams with stretch goals to meet and how to help them reach the top year after year.

About Sue: Ms. Ersher’s record would be remarkable enough if it only detailed her business achievements. During her 23-year corporate career, she has held a series of increasingly responsible executive positions in the sales divisions of Fortune 500 companies. She led teams to sales records, beating quotas from $1 million to $600 million. Ending as a vice president of sales for a multi-national telecommunications corporation, she was responsible for their fast-growing Internet division. During her business career, she earned 11 annual President’s Club sales awards — the top honors awarded to the sales people in these companies. Sue and Phil became the first couple in history to climb the Seven Summits together.

Audience Members Rave:

“Sue’s presentation was an outstanding  story where we shared the excitement of her journey to the summit and how this experience is related to our business, specifically in terms of setting goals and teamwork. She is truly an inspiration for all of us!“ -Business & Marketing Officer, Microsoft

“Your ability to relate the challenges, risks, and rewards of climbing to the business world were invaluable. As we set out to reach new peaks as a team, we will reflect upon your words of encouragement and structured approach to reaching our goals. Thank you again for the  value you provided to our team.” -Region Vice President, IBM

“We are pleased to say that Susan exceeded our expectations. Susan’s discussion on the Seven Summit experience, culminating with climbing Mt. Everest, was presented in a fashion of setting a seemingly impossible vision and then breaking down the task into manageable steps. Susan  integrated the highs and lows of making progress and experiencing setbacks and rewarding experience of maintaining focus on your goals, hard work and perseverance. The feedback from our customers was over-whelming positive citing both an entertaining and aspiration experience.” -Vice President, Westinghouse Electric Company

“Sue received one of the highest scores ever as our keynote speaker. We would have wanted nothing to be different. Perfect mix of business and her experience on the mountain and incredible photos. Audience so engaged throughout, no talking even in the back, unusual and a very good sign! “ - Leader, Premera Blue Cross

“Motivational and engaging, Sue weaved a captivating story of reaching summits and exceptional sales goals that inspired our customers and partners to take on bigger challenges and face them head on. She gained instant credibility with the audience, having walked in our shoes. And she provided valuable tools to help all of us reach our goals.” Kim Hawley, CEO, Attenex Corp

“Your presentation was absolutely fantastic and you made a lot of friends in Olympia. On a personal level, I have to tell you that you really made my day as program chair because I have been receiving compliment after compliment about what a great program I secured. ” Chief Justice, Supreme Court — Washington

“Sue’s presentation was a breath taking story of the conquest and beauty of extreme conditions and determination, but more importantly, an inspiring example of reliance on each other as partners, to train, trust and work together and sharing both strength and wisdom to create success.”President, Arcus Innovation, Inc.

“Climbing Mt. Everest seems like a feat for rough and rugged mountain men, but Sue Ershler dispels that myth the minute you see her. It seems that her tiny stature would blow off the mountain if not roped up, but Sue is as strong and tough as any mountain man is! Her story is filled with trials and triumphs, and throughout her presentation Sue’s positive, “can-do” attitude comes through. Her love of life and adventure shines through her words and pictures. She truly inspires others to live life to the fullest!”High Tech Learning Centers

“I have seen many presentations over the years, both motivational and business related. This was the best of both worlds. It was truly a great experience for all in attendance.”
Vice President Business Resources Development, Inc.

Spellbinding, it was as if you were right there with Sue and Phil.”

“We are at least twice as productive as before. We plan, document and communicate with greater efficiency. Our organization’s productivity improvement has been phenomenal.” -Dr. Thomas Jenkins, DuPont

“Your talk was absolutely brilliant – one of the most riveting presentations I have ever seen.”
-Professor Raj Sisodia, author of Firms of Endearment, on Michael Gelb’s keynote speech at the 3rd International research Conference on Conscious Capitalism

“Our organization hired Michael because of his novel approach and unique programs inspiring innovation, creativity and leadership. We designed a 3-year program that resulted in substantially and permanently changing the culture of our 300+ person department; from executives to union employees. There were measurable, significant increases in employee satisfaction, team effectiveness and communications. Michael’s programs are for business executives/leaders who truly want to leverage the creative and innovative talent in their department, division or company to improve productivity and employee retention.”
-Liz Faison, Project Director, Merck

“Michael is an astounding individual whose skills span a surprising and wide array of disciplines. I first met Michael during his initial work when he reverse engineered da Vinci to understand the dynamics of innovation present in that genius – and of course he has since amplified his work to understand Edison. All journeys of innovation must begin with – and include throughout – the skills and principles that Michael espouses. I can think of no one better qualified than him to help advise us in this space.” -Jim Karkanias, Senior Director (Partner), Microsoft

“Thank you for being part of our event! While I personally enjoyed your presentations and got a lot out of them, I was even more delighted to note the level of engagement, interest and uptake of my colleagues. I was only half joking when I said they are tough to please! As an organization we have a culture of being inward facing and not very receptive to external ideas. You are a very real exception to that rule. By Day 3, we all used mind mapping as the starter to a group exercise and everyone ‘got’ it. Around the event ‘sfumato’ and ‘connessione’, etc. kept dropping into conversations. I am looking forward to the next couple months and seeing this all take root.” -Claudia Iton, Unilever,V.P. Keynote Speeches (customizable to fit client needs):

“The Aging Brain: Crossroads of Attention and Memory”

Join Dr. Adam Gazzaley as he takes us on a tour of the changes that occur in our brains as we age, and the impact this has on our cognitive abilities. He makes understandable state-of-the-art scientific tools that are now available to study the functioning human brain, and couples this with interactive examples from his own research that explores attention and memory mechanisms. He presents recent discoveries from his lab that demonstrates the consequences of a failure to filter distraction on memory deficits in older adults. Lastly, Dr. Gazzaley reviews what we might do to keep our brains healthy and fit throughout our lives (e.g., diet, mental and physical exercise).

“Our Brain’s Perspective on Distraction and Multitasking”

The human brain, despite extraordinary complexity and remarkable capabilities, has distinct limitations: Selective attention abilities, the speed in which we process information, our short-term memory capacity and our ability to resolve interference are all exceeded when demands are too great. Dr. Gazzaley explains how our brains manage the river of data that constantly floods it, how its capacities can be exceeded, and the consequences of this on our cognitive performance. He also presents a fascinating perspective on how our increasingly saturated world of digital media, as well as growing expectations of immediate responsiveness, place excessive demands on our brains. Failure of both young and older adults to successfully cope with this new environment has a widespread impact. The talk concludes with a discussion of whether the remedy requires modifying societal trends or lies within our brains.

“Brain plasticity across the lifespan”

It is now appreciated that our brains are capable of a remarkable degree of neuroplasticity. That is, the brain changes structurally and functionally in response to our experiences and interactions with the environment, not just during critical periods of childhood, but throughout our lives. This is a modern view of the brain, and scientists are actively exploring the intricacies of this phenomenon. Dr. Gazzaley will present a broad perspective of brain plasticity, from historical, landmark discoveries to recent findings on the power of action video games to refine our perceptual and attention abilities. He will discuss theories of cognitive reserve, use-it-or-lose-it, and neural efficiency. Lastly, he will tackle the hotly debated topic of the impact of brain training and cognitive exercises.

Unraveling Alzheimer’s Disease”

Dr. Gazzaley presents an overview of our current understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. He describes in an easy to understand manner the changes that occur in the brains of individuals with this devastating disease, and contrasts it with alterations that take place during normal aging. Along the way, he touches on the most common questions people have about the disease, including, “what is the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia?,” “how can I be sure if someone has this disease?,” and “what are my chances of getting it if a family member has it?”. Lastly, he informs us of the latest breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment.

“Brain and Mind”

Dr. Gazzaley leads us on a journey through how the brain gives rise to the mind. The talk launches with a historical perspective on the topic (e.g., Aristotle: the mind is domain of the heart), but quickly focuses in on our modern perspective and state-of-the-art scientific tools now available to understand the functioning human brain.  You will be treated to a sweeping overview of how our brains generate perception, attention, short-term and long-term memory, with examples from Dr. Gazzaley’s own research. Throughout the lecture, many commonly held brain myths are dispelled, such as “we only use 10% of our brains,” “getting older kills our brain cells,” “we are either ‘left-brained’ or ‘right-brained’”. The talk concludes with an overview of the developing and aging brain & mind.

Dr. Gazzaley was an invited guest speaker for our science Pro Sessions held at our flagship Apple Retail Stores. He packed the house and effortlessly explained complex, technical scientific research with a clear, straightforward delivery and friendly tone.  Any organization would be privileged to have Dr. Gazzaley tell a fascinating story of the brain, the mind and what we can do to preserve our cognitive abilities as we age. In addition to the presentation itself, Dr. Gazzaley was very comfortable and adept at fielding and answering questions, acknowledging the audience, and taking time to mingle before and after his talk. This was one of our most successful Pro Sessions and we would be delighted to have Dr. Gazzaley speak on our behalf again.

Dr. Gazzaley was impeccable about his clinical knowledge, as well as his access to information on the latest research in the field. However, unlike many highly scientific speakers, he exhibited a talent for truly speaking to his audience; he was able to adeptly understand and speak to their specific concerns as physicians. In addition, he was friendly, outgoing and open to the attendees, so they felt comfortable engaging in dialogue. I highly recommend Dr. Gazzaley for further speaking engagements. I’m writing to thank you for your clear, well‐organized, and informative talk on memory and attention. I also want to express my wonder at your filling the Fireside Room to capacity. I learned that staff had to set up 350 seats, and given the number of people standing, kneeling, and seated on
the floor, we had an audience of about 400, our biggest ever.

-Tom Mader, President
Community Club of Rossmoor

We ‘hit the jackpot’ when we found someone of your academic stature and research accomplishments. Your presentation was not only stimulating but kept our audience attentive, in fact, riveted in their seats. This was one of our bigger audiences, speaking to a subject that is personal to most and presented and delivered in a most dynamic fashion. Thank you very much for your very engaging presentation.
